When Stussy and Converse got together to discuss a series of upcoming footwear collaborations, the designs were to be inspired by certain friends and family who embody the lifestyles that both brands represent and “Stand Firm” in what they do. These individuals would epitomize the direction of the projects and then convey the attitude and function of the products with a quick view into their everday lives. The Summer 2012 series kicks off with musician Hanni El Khatib.

Hanni is currently living in Los Angeles and signed to the Innovative Leisure record label. He grew up skateboarding in San Francisco where he played music on the side and worked as the creative director for HUF but eventually moved on to pursue music full time. After his recent trip to the SXSW music festival, we caught up with Hanni in the desert where he lit some stuff on fire and talked about indulging his creative side.

The Stussy x Converse Summer 12 collection exemplifies Hanni’s classic aesthetic and artistic drive with stylish updates of the Elm and Sea Star models. The Elm is dressed up with black premium leather and features tough d-ring eyelets, cord laces, camo ripstop lining and embossed Stussy logo on the outside heel. The Sea Star features a classic boat shoe silhouette and is available in a rugged camo or black ripstop upper with leather laces and camo ripstop lining. Whether skating, jamming or just having fun, Hanni knows how to stay focused on his passions and “Stand Firm” in his creative endeavors.

MIT – Meet In Town, Rome’s festival of new sounds, will take place at the Auditorium on 8-9 June with a lineup that is growing and including more and more artists.

We are glad to announce that Afrika Bambaataa will lead off the dance for this year’s edition; he has been the beginning of so many things, also MIT 2012 will begin with him.

Carhartt WIP and MIT have shared a long path, devising and developing special projects to create something different. Since when Meet In Town was a small and innovative festival at Rome’s Auditorium organised by Snob Production.
Thanks to their partnership, in 2008 MIT succeeded in bringing together Carl Craig and his Innerzone Orchestra; they performed in the Sinopoli Hall of Rome’s Parco della Musica. The live performance was made into a DVD, including backstage footage and interviews. Produced by Carhartt WIP, the DVD has been distributed worldwide.

The partnership cemented over the following years, as the festival grew including every edition more and more artists from different genres. This year many international artists have confirmed they will be playing on 8-9 June, such as Squarepushare, James Blake, Atlas Sound, Sebastien Tellier, Mouse On Mars, Thundercat, Breton, Ghostpoet, Brandt Brauer Frick, Machiedrum. The long-awaited back to back with Theo Parrish and Marcellus Pittman, ambassadors of Detroit’s new sound, will draw an imaginary line connecting 2008′s big event to this year’s edition.

The beat continues, sharper and stronger in Shiner and introduces us to the wonderful pads of Rio South where we find those kind of basslines that makes you want to thank God for being able to move; the elements mix further with Tunnel88, an extraordinary polymorphic sequence of rythms and melodies where the sound thickens or thins alternately. The finale is the small idylliac landscape of Stormy, only placid beats and a beautiful minimal progression of synth chords.
